Backpack Deals
A good backpack is fundamental to any outdoor adventure, whether it's a quick day hike or a longer trek. The right pack distributes weight comfortably, keeps your essentials organized, and stands up to the elements. The REI Anniversary Sale offers deals on several packs that have proven their worth in our testing. Don't forget to check out our guide to the Best Day-Hiking Backpacks and the Best Travel Bags.

REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack for $42 ($18 off)
The REI Co-op Flash 22 Pack stands out as arguably the best-value day pack on the market, and the sale price makes it even more compelling. What surprised our testers was its remarkable comfort, despite its lightweight straps and minimal padding. It's designed to comfortably carry loads up to 15 pounds, making it ideal for day hikes or light travel. A standout feature is the generously sized side stash pockets, large enough to easily accommodate a Nalgene bottle or a rain jacket for quick access. Constructed from 70-denier recycled ripstop nylon, the Flash 22 is on the lighter side, prioritizing weight savings. Despite this, our reviewer's pack has held up admirably, even enduring rough canyon hikes in Utah with nothing more than a few mud stains to show for it. Its combination of comfort, practical features, and durable-enough construction at this price point makes it a top recommendation.
REI Co-op Flash 18 Pack for $28 ($12 off)
For those who prioritize ultimate minimalism and packability, the REI Co-op Flash 18 Pack is the ultralight sibling to the Flash 22. This pack strips away features like the hip belt, side stash pockets, and floating lid to achieve an incredibly low weight and compact size. The result is a bare-bones pack that excels as a secondary bag for travel. You can stuff it down to almost nothing, easily stashing it in your carry-on luggage, and pull it out whenever you need a lightweight backpack for exploring a new city or taking a short, gear-minimal hike. However, its minimalist design means it's best suited for lighter loads, ideally under 8 pounds. Users should also be mindful of packing sharp or pointy items, as the Flash 18 lacks internal padding for protection.
Mystery Ranch Gallagator 25 for $97 ($32 off)
The Mystery Ranch Gallagator 25 is another of our favorite day-hiking packs, offering a blend of comfort and lightweight design. This pack introduced our reviewer to the benefits of wider shoulder straps, which provide enhanced comfort for carrying weight without the added bulk of traditional thick padding. The outcome is a pack that is both comfortable and impressively light at just 1 pound, 6 ounces. Its packable nature also makes it a great companion for travel, easily fitting under the seat of even small airplanes. The side pockets are spacious enough for a Nalgene water bottle, and the 25-liter capacity is ample for carrying everything needed for a full day out. Whether you're hitting a local trail or simply need a comfortable and versatile pack for urban exploration, the Gallagator 25 is a strong contender.

Resolve 15L Endless Promise Pack for 120 ($60 off)
For the environmentally conscious hiker looking to keep their load light, the Nemo Resolve 15L Endless Promise Pack is our favorite day-hiking pack. Its commitment to sustainability is impressive: it's made from 100 percent recycled materials, designed to be infinitely adjustable and repairable, and can be sent back to Nemo for complete recycling at the end of its lifespan. While it features a somewhat unconventional system of bungees and pull-tabs instead of traditional straps, it sits comfortably and high on your back. Weighing in at 1 pound, 15 ounces, it's relatively light, especially considering the hardware it incorporates. This pack is a great choice for those who value both performance on the trail and a reduced environmental footprint.
Osprey Talon 22 Backpack for $120 ($40 off)
Osprey's Talon line has been a staple in the outdoor community since 2007, and the Talon 22 continues that legacy. This model is the smaller counterpart to the 33L version featured in our guide to the best day-hiking packs. The enduring success of the Talon series is well-deserved, built on a foundation of durability and reasonable weight. Constructed from 100-denier high-tenacity nylon (Bluesign-approved), the Talon 22 is robust yet remains relatively lightweight at 2 pounds, 1 ounce (for the S/M size). Its dual zippered panel-loading design provides easy access to your gear, and a multitude of internal and external pockets help keep everything organized. It's a versatile pack, perfect for day hikes or as a reliable everyday carry.
Trail Running and Road Running Deals
Whether you prefer the rugged terrain of trails or the consistent surface of roads, having the right footwear can make all the difference in comfort, performance, and injury prevention. The REI sale includes deals on running shoes that cater to different preferences and needs. Our experts have put these shoes through their paces, and they come highly recommended.

Xero Z-Trail Barefoot Sandals for $60 ($20 off)
These sandals are so good, they inspired our reviewer to write 1,000 words about them. The Xero Z-Trail Barefoot Sandals offer a minimalist, barefoot-like experience akin to Chacos, but with a key difference: they flex and bend with your foot's natural movement. This provides a sense of freedom that traditional, more rigid sandals lack. Despite their barefoot design, the Z-Trails feature 10 mm of cushion, which is a significant amount for this category, making them a comfortable entry point for those new to barefoot footwear. They're versatile enough for light trails, water activities, or casual wear, offering a blend of protection and natural feel.
Salomon X Ultra 4 Hiking Shoes for $120 ($40 off)
Salomon consistently produces our favorite hiking boots, and the X Ultra line is a prime example of their expertise. This deal is on last year's version of our reviewer Adrienne So's favorite hiking boots, which she recently tested in the challenging terrain of the Columbia River Gorge. Salomon hiking footwear is known for its impressive combination of protection, traction, and user-friendliness. The X Ultra 4 is lightweight and remarkably easy to put on and take off. Adrienne particularly appreciates the heel grip, which prevents toes from smashing into the front of the shoe on downhill sections. The outsole is incredibly sticky, providing confidence-inspiring traction that allows you to climb rocks like an ant. With Gore-Tex waterproofing, these shoes are ready for varied conditions, making them a reliable choice for serious hikers.
Altra Lone Peak 9 Running Shoes for $105 ($35 off)
For years, our reviewer Adrienne So has relied on the women's version of the Altra Lone Peak, and for good reason. Altra is a top contender for the best running shoe if you're seeking a barefoot-inspired feel without sacrificing traction and protection. The Lone Peak is characterized by its zero heel-to-toe drop and spacious toe box, allowing your toes to splay naturally. This design promotes a more natural running form while still providing ample protection against rocks and trail debris. It's a favorite among trail runners who appreciate the blend of minimalist feel and necessary trail features.
Altra Fwd Via Running Shoes for $120 ($40 off)
Bringing Altra's signature spacious toe box to the road, the Fwd Via is the brand's answer to highly cushioned road running shoes like the Brooks Glycerin Max. If you love the feeling of a very cushioned shoe but are also drawn to Altra's characteristic wide toe box (a preference many runners share!), the Fwd Via is the shoe for you. It provides a plush ride for road miles while maintaining the foot-friendly design Altra is known for. For those interested in exploring minimalist footwear further, don't forget to check out our guide to the Best Barefoot Shoes.
Sleeping Bag and Sleeping Pad Deals
A good night's sleep is crucial for enjoying the outdoors, and that starts with quality sleeping gear. The REI sale includes significant discounts on sleeping bags and pads for various conditions and preferences. Choosing the right combination of bag and pad can be confusing, so consult our guides to the Best Sleeping Bags and the Best Backpacking Sleeping Pads for expert recommendations.

REI Co-op Magma 15 Sleeping Bag for $300 ($130 off)
The REI Co-op Magma 15 is our favorite bag for shoulder-season trips, those transitional periods when temperatures can be unpredictable and drop unexpectedly. This bag excels at keeping you warm thanks to its excellent draft collar, which effectively seals out cold air. The exterior is made from a durable 15-denier nylon ripstop, which is Bluesign-approved and treated with a non-fluorinated DWR coating to repel moisture. The internal baffles are designed with variable spacing and are not stitched through, a construction method that helps keep the down fill in place and minimizes potential cold spots. The Magma 15 is a no-nonsense sleeping bag that prioritizes core performance and reliability over unnecessary features, making it a solid choice for backpackers facing cooler conditions.
REI Co-op Siesta Hooded 20 Sleeping Bag for $140 ($60 off)
For comfortable summertime car camping, the REI Co-op Siesta Hooded 20 Sleeping Bag is our top recommendation. It provides plenty of warmth for typical summer nights and is offered at an accessible price point. Unlike restrictive mummy bags, the Siesta features a rectangular cut, offering significantly more room to move around and find a comfortable sleeping position – a welcome luxury when you're not trying to shave ounces for a backpacking trip. Its 20-degree rating makes it suitable for three-season use, and uniquely for a rectangular bag, it includes a hood, which can be invaluable on colder evenings to trap heat around your head.
Therm-a-Rest Questar 20F Sleeping Bag for $300 ($100 off)
While no longer our absolute top pick for side sleepers, the Therm-a-Rest Questar 20F remains an excellent option for campers and backpackers who desire more space within a mummy bag design. Therm-a-Rest employs what they call W.A.R.M. fit for this bag, an acronym standing for “with additional room for multiple” sleeping positions. This design philosophy results in a mummy bag that feels notably roomier than many of its counterparts. Our reviewer found they could comfortably draw their legs up while side-sleeping and spread out considerably more than in other bags tested. If you value freedom of movement during the night but still need the warmth efficiency of a mummy shape, the Questar is worth considering, especially at this discounted price.

Sea to Summit Spark 15 for $434 ($146 off)
When it comes to shedding weight without sacrificing warmth, the Sea to Summit Spark 15 is our favorite ultralight sleeping bag. While lighter quilts exist, for those nights when you need the full warmth and security of a mummy bag in colder temperatures, the Spark 15 is the best our reviewer has tested. Its packed size is also exceptionally small for a bag in this temperature range. With the included compression sack, it becomes truly tiny, making it easy to fit into a minimalist backpacking setup. It offers many of the benefits of a quilt, such as low weight and compressibility, without the potential downsides like drafts. The bag is filled with PFC-free, 850+ hydrophobic down, which performs well even in damp conditions. The zippers are small but operate smoothly and rarely snag. Our reviewer has comfortably slept in this bag down to 20 degrees Fahrenheit, never feeling cold. This significant discount makes a premium ultralight bag more accessible.
Nemo Forte 20 Synthetic Sleeping Bag for $150 ($50 off)
Nemo's Forte 20 is a synthetic-fill sleeping bag rated for 20 degrees Fahrenheit, though Nemo's comfort rating suggests it's most comfortable closer to 30 degrees, which aligns with our reviewer's testing experience. The outer shell is made from a 30-denier recycled polyester ripstop, and the inner liner uses 20-denier recycled polyester taffeta. This construction does an excellent job of managing moisture, a fact our reviewer confirmed during a particularly soggy night of testing. The fill, called Zerofiber insulation, is made from 100 percent postconsumer recycled content fibers. A key advantage of Zerofiber is its ability to pack down remarkably small for a synthetic fill, making it the most compact synthetic bag our reviewer has tested in this temperature range. Crucially, it retains its insulating properties even when wet, offering peace of mind in damp environments. The Forte 20 is a solid, sustainable option for those who prefer synthetic insulation.

Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 30 Long Sleeping Bag for $199 ($66 off)
The Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 30 is our favorite backpacking sleeping bag, striking an excellent balance between warmth, weight, packed size, and price. While not the absolute lightest or warmest bag available, it offers the best compromise for the majority of backpackers. Our reviewer has spent over two weeks sleeping in this bag in temperatures ranging from 28 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. While it was indeed too warm on the hottest nights, simply unzipping it and using it like a blanket provided comfortable rest. This versatility makes it a great three-season bag. Note that for the men's version, only the long size is currently on sale, while both the long and regular sizes of the women's 30-degree bag are discounted.
Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 0 Sleeping Bag for $244 ($81 off)
For those venturing into colder conditions, the Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 0 Sleeping Bag offers impressive warmth without the extreme price tag often associated with zero-degree bags. Although our reviewer hasn't formally written about it yet, they tested the Bishop Pass 0 over the winter and were pleasantly surprised by its performance. It kept them warm on several nights when temperatures dropped into the single digits Fahrenheit, well below the bag's comfort rating of 13 degrees. Wearing merino base layers and a wool hat, as is standard practice for maximizing sleeping bag warmth, contributed to this comfort. If you need a reliable bag for cold weather, but aren't facing extreme arctic conditions, this is a strong and more affordable option.
Zenbivy Bed 25-Degree Sleeping Bag for $200 ($100 off)
The Zenbivy Bed 25-Degree Sleeping Bag system provides hands-down the most comfortable backcountry sleeping experience our reviewer has ever had, earning a 9/10 rating and WIRED Recommends badge. While it might not be the top choice for extreme cold or minimalist thru-hiking where every ounce counts, for anyone prioritizing comfort within its temperature range (a comfort rating of 35 degrees Fahrenheit), the Zenbivy system is unparalleled. It's not just a traditional sleeping bag; it's a modular system comprising a sheet, hood, and quilt-style bag that can be configured in various ways to suit your sleeping style and the conditions. This flexibility allows you to sleep more naturally, like you would in your own bed, even in the wilderness.
Zenbivy Light Bed 25-Degree for $307 ($101 off)
Building on the success of their original system, Zenbivy introduced the Light Bed, which takes the comfortable, modular design and significantly reduces the weight. Our reviewer has been testing this new system for several months and reports that it retains everything they loved about the original Zenbivy Bed but in a lighter package. A full review is forthcoming, but if you've been intrigued by the Zenbivy concept but wanted a lighter option for backpacking, the Light Bed is likely what you've been waiting for. The price listed here includes both the bed/sheet component and the quilt. It's worth noting that Zenbivy is currently running a 25 percent off sale on almost everything on their site, making this an excellent time to invest in a premium sleep system.

Nemo Tensor All-Season Sleeping Pad for $165 ($55 off)
Nemo's updated 2024 Tensor-insulated sleeping pads (8/10, WIRED Recommends) boast an industry-leading R-value-to-weight ratio, making the All-Season model our top pick for backpacking trips. With an R-value of 5.4 and weighing just 18.2 ounces, its thermal efficiency for its weight is truly impressive. Beyond the numbers, our reviewer loves the Tensor for its thickness, providing ample cushioning from the ground, and its nearly silent construction – a welcome change from crinkly sleeping pads. The slightly lighter Trail model is also on sale, as is the Extreme Conditions pad, which holds the title of the lightest, warmest sleeping pad on the market. If you're looking to upgrade your sleep system for comfort and warmth without adding significant weight, the Tensor line is an excellent place to start.
Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT Sleeping Pad for $157 ($53 off)
A perennial favorite among the ultralight backpacking crowd, the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT is our pick for backpackers seeking to minimize pack weight while still ensuring a comfortable night's sleep. The XLite NXT delivers on this promise, providing ample comfort while keeping the weight well under 1 pound for the regular size. Its 3-inch thickness offers plenty of insulation and cushioning from the cold, hard ground, and the R-Value of 4.5 makes it suitable for most three-season backpacking conditions. While it has a reputation for being a bit noisy, the comfort and weight savings it provides are hard to beat for dedicated ultralight enthusiasts.
Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Regular Wide Sleeping Pad for $154 ($66 off)
The Sea to Summit Ether Light XT is a fantastic alternative ultralight sleeping pad, weighing only marginally more than the Therm-a-Rest XLite NXT. That slight increase in weight (about 4 ounces) gets you significantly more cushion – this pad is a generous 4 inches thick compared to the XLite's 3 inches, making it a potentially more comfortable option for side sleepers who need extra loft to prevent hips from bottoming out. Our reviewer also prefers the baffle design of the Ether Light XT and found it to be a little more durable in testing. This particular deal is on an REI Outlet item, as the XT has been superseded by a newer model, but at this price, it represents outstanding value for a comfortable and relatively lightweight sleeping pad.
Tent Deals
Your tent is your home away from home in the wilderness, providing shelter from the elements and a comfortable space to rest. Choosing the right tent depends on your group size, the conditions you expect, and your priorities regarding weight and space. The REI Anniversary Sale includes discounts on several tents that have earned high marks in our testing. Check out our Best Tents guide for more WIRED-tested recommendations.

REI Half Dome SL 2+ Tent for $210 ($90 off)
REI Co-op's own brand gear consistently offers some of the best value in the outdoor market, and the Half Dome SL 2+ tent is a prime example. It's our pick for the Best Two-Person Backpacking Tent, praised for its rugged durability, relatively lightweight design (4 pounds), and generous living space for two people plus their gear. The tent body is constructed from a mix of 40-denier ripstop nylon for durability on the base and floor, and lighter 20-denier nylon mesh for the upper body, balancing protection and ventilation. A significant bonus is that the Half Dome comes with a footprint, which is increasingly rare these days but provides valuable protection for the tent floor. The aluminum tent poles are interchangeable, simplifying setup and takedown. This tent offers a fantastic combination of features and performance at a very competitive price, especially with the sale discount.
Sea to Summit Alto 1-Person Tent for $250 ($250 off)
Sea to Summit's ultralight Alto 1-Person Tent (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is specifically designed for solo adventurers who need to keep their pack weight to a minimum. At just 33 ounces for a semi-freestanding tent, it remains one of the lightest options available on the market. The current sale price makes this high-performance tent incredibly appealing. The extensive mesh netting contributes to its low weight and provides excellent ventilation, though for colder or windier conditions, the Plus version, which features less mesh, is also on sale for $275 ($275 off), representing an equally outstanding deal for a more protected shelter. The Alto is a testament to minimalist design done right, offering a reliable and featherlight shelter for solo trips.
Sea to Summit Telos Plus 3-Person Tent for $325 ($325 off)
Sea to Summit's “3-plus season” tents, like the Telos Plus 3-Person, are designed to handle a wider range of weather conditions while remaining remarkably light. This three-person model weighs just 3 pounds and 12 ounces, an impressive feat for a tent capable of standing up to significant wind. Our reviewer Michael Calore used it on a five-day trip to Loon Lake in northern California during early October, a true “shoulder season” experience with warm daytime temperatures, cold nights, and overnight winds gusting up to 60 mph. The tent performed admirably, providing reliable shelter. A clever design detail Michael particularly appreciated is the pole bag, which is made rigid by an opaque white plastic insert. This allows it to be clipped to the tent’s ceiling and used as a light diffuser when you place your headlamp inside, illuminating the tent's interior. The Telos Plus offers robust performance and innovative features in a lightweight package.

Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Tent for $412 ($138 off)
The Big Agnes Copper Spur series is widely regarded as the king of freestanding ultralight tents. Our reviewer has used both the two-person and three-person models (the UL3 is on sale for $450) over the years and has witnessed Big Agnes's continuous refinement of the design, bringing them close to perfection. These tents are high-quality, thoughtfully designed, lightweight, and easy to set up. They offer excellent stability, even in strong winds. The steep sidewalls maximize the interior livable space compared to many other tents in their weight class. A fan-favorite feature is the “awning” design, which allows you to prop up the vestibule doors with trekking poles or sticks to create a shaded or rain-protected area outside the tent. While the price is typically a significant investment, the sale makes the Copper Spur much more accessible for backpackers seeking top-tier performance.
Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL3 Bikepacking Tent for $472 ($128 off)
Bikepacking, the exciting fusion of backpacking and cycling, has gained popularity, and brands are responding with specialized gear. Big Agnes was an early innovator among mainstream brands, designing tents specifically for bikepackers. The Copper Spur HV UL3 Bikepacking tent is our favorite among the bikepacking tents we've tested. Its key feature is shorter pole lengths, designed to pack down small enough to fit conveniently between drop handlebars or inside bike panniers. This three-person model weighs just 3 pounds, 11 ounces (1.6 kilos), offering enough space for two people comfortably (it can fit three, but it's a squeeze). Lighter, smaller one- and two-person versions are also available, all sharing core features like twin vestibules and doors for easy entry and gear storage, hidden helmet storage pockets, and external webbing loops perfect for hanging wet clothes to dry. This tent is a thoughtful and high-performing option for cyclists who want to carry their shelter on two wheels.
Nemo Dagger Osmo 2P Tent for $375 ($25 off)
Nemo's Dagger Osmo line of tents is known for combining reasonably light weight with notably roomy interiors. The three-person version (also on sale) has been our reviewer's go-to tent for trips with their kids, highlighting its practicality for small groups. The Dagger Osmo 2P (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is easy to set up thanks to its single main pole design that forks at each end, supported by a cross pole in the middle. It features two spacious vestibules, providing ample covered storage space for gear outside the main tent body. On clear nights, leaving the rain fly off allows for excellent stargazing through the mesh tent body. The Dagger Osmo offers a great balance of space, weight, and ease of use.

Nemo Mayfly Osmo 2P Backpacking Tent for $300 ($100 off)
The Nemo Mayfly Osmo (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is a three-season backpacking tent designed to be lightweight and functional. The two-person version our reviewer tested has a trail weight of 3 pounds, 8 ounces. When split between two hikers, this means each person is carrying less than 2 pounds of tent weight, which is excellent for backpacking. The Mayfly achieves its weight savings through a semi-freestanding design, meaning it requires staking out to achieve its full structure. While on the smaller side with 27.9 square feet of living space and two 7-square-foot vestibule areas, our reviewer found it plenty livable for two people. The cross pole helps create a wider roof area than many tents of this size, enhancing interior volume. Noteworthy details include the white mesh (which offers better visibility than black mesh) and the super simple clips that secure the rain fly. This tent is a strong contender for backpackers seeking a lightweight, functional shelter at a good value, especially with the current discount.
Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo Backpacking Tent for $175 ($86 off)
For solo backpackers who prioritize ultralight gear, the Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo is our reviewer's favorite single-wall ultralight solo tent. A full review is coming soon, but after spending considerable time with this tent, our reviewer is a convert, particularly for summer camping. The Lunar Solo effectively addresses the main challenge of single-wall tents: condensation. It incorporates ample mesh and a top vent in the vestibule, similar to the design of the highly-rated Hilleberg Akto (10/10, WIRED Recommends), which significantly minimizes condensation issues. While it has its quirks (be sure to read the pitching tips to get a perfect pitch), if you're looking for a shelter that's more protective than a simple tarp but still weighs an incredibly low 26 ounces (740 grams), the Lunar Solo is hard to beat, especially at this sale price.
Hiking and Biking Deals

REI Co-op Rainier Rain Jacket for Kids for $56 ($24 off)
Keeping kids dry outdoors can be a challenge, but the REI Co-op Rainier Rain Jacket makes it easier and more affordable. Our reviewer Adrienne So finds these jackets to be such a great value that she repurchases them every year for her children. It's difficult to find rain jackets that offer better performance for the price. The kids' version features a 2.5-layer shell construction with a non-fluorinated (read: PFAS-free) durable water-repellent (DWR) coating, ensuring water beads up and rolls off. Taped seams prevent leaks, and an adjustable hood provides a secure fit. These jackets are built to last through a year of kid-level wear and tear (assuming they don't get lost!), making them a practical investment for rainy days.
Roark Bless Up Shirt for $67 ($22 off)
Looking for the perfect shirt for hot, humid summer days? The Roark Bless Up Shirt is a top contender. Our reviewer Adrienne So loves this shirt so much that she bought one for her father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and husband last year! Roark Clothing is a smaller company that consistently produces high-quality, functional active apparel, and the Bless Up shirt is a standout. It's made from perforated synthetic fibers, making it incredibly breathable and ideal for temperatures soaring above 90 degrees, especially in humid conditions like beach days. It's a stylish and practical shirt that makes a great gift or personal purchase for summer adventures.
Fjällräven Abisko Hybrid Trail Trousers for $136 ($59 off)
Fjällräven's hiking pants – or “trousers” as they call them – have a legendary reputation for durability and performance, and after spending a spring in the Abisko Hybrid Trail Trousers, our reviewer understands why. These trousers are lightweight yet surprisingly warm and exceptionally good at blocking wind, making them versatile for changing conditions. The G-1000 Lite Stretch recycled fabric provides excellent freedom of movement thanks to its stretchiness. Having personally experienced Lyme disease, our reviewer particularly values the ability to cinch down the leg cuffs, an invaluable feature for keeping ticks and other unwanted guests out. They also noted that applying insect repellent to the fabric caused no staining or damage. The G-1000 fabric can be waxed to refresh its water resistance, adding to the trousers' longevity (though our reviewer hasn't needed to do this yet). These are a significant investment, but the sale makes them more appealing for hikers seeking high-quality, durable, and protective pants.

Smartwool Performance Hike Light Cushion Crew Socks for $18 ($6 off)
While our reviewer still slightly prefers Darn Tough's lightweight hiking socks, these Smartwool socks are a very close second and an excellent buy at this discounted price. Can you ever truly have too many quality wool hiking socks? We think not. These socks are made with 56 percent merino wool, providing a good balance of stretch and natural odor resistance. Our reviewer found they stayed remarkably odor-free even after a couple of days on the trail. Having multiple pairs to rotate is key to keeping your feet dry and comfortable on multi-day trips. This is a great opportunity to stock up on a hiking essential.
Smartwool Running Low Ankle Socks for $14 ($5 off)
While not yet added to our Best Merino Wool Clothing Guide, these Smartwool Running Low Ankle Socks are the best merino ankle running socks our reviewer Adrienne So has tested. Although their merino content is around 54 percent (with the remainder being nylon and elastane), they are thin, lightweight, and perform exceptionally well with various types of running shoes, including barefoot shoes. Despite the lower merino percentage compared to some hiking socks, they resist odor surprisingly well. If you're a runner looking for comfortable, low-profile socks that stay fresh, these are a great option, especially at the sale price.
REI Co-op Sahara Shade Hoodie for $35 ($15 off)
Sun protection is paramount for long days outdoors, and a sun hoodie is a comfortable and effective way to shield your skin. The REI Co-op Sahara Shade Hoodie is remarkably affordable compared to many other options featured in our Best Sun Protection Clothing guide. WIRED reviewer Jaina Grey found this hoodie to be super soft and breathable, making it comfortable even in warm conditions. It features thumb holes to provide extra coverage and protect the back of your hands from the sun's rays. With a UPF 50 rating, it offers excellent protection. For parents or anyone with sun-sensitive skin, getting them to wear a comfortable hoodie like this can be much easier than constantly applying sticky sunscreen. This sale price makes it an accessible option for adding sun protection to your outdoor wardrobe.

Thousand Chapter MIPS Helmet for $109 ($36 off)
Safety is paramount when cycling, and the Thousand Chapter MIPS Helmet is an excellent choice for commuters, ranking as our second-best helmet in our guide to the Best Bike Helmets. This helmet is packed with thoughtful features designed for urban riding. It includes a magnetic rear light that easily snaps off for convenient recharging, enhancing your visibility to motorists. A unique pullout tab allows you to easily secure the helmet to your bike lock. Beyond these practical features, it incorporates MIPS technology, a crucial safety system designed to reduce rotational forces on the brain during certain angled impacts. Available in a variety of fun designs and colors, the Thousand Chapter MIPS Helmet combines style, safety, and commuter-friendly functionality.
Giro Escape MIPS Helmet for $97 ($33 off)
Another excellent option for urban cyclists, the Giro Escape MIPS Helmet prioritizes visibility and safety. This helmet features integrated rechargeable lights on both the front and back, helping you be seen in low-light conditions. It boasts an unassuming, commuter-friendly design that looks good both on and off the bike. Like the Thousand Chapter, it includes MIPS technology to provide an extra layer of protection against rotational impacts. The Giro Escape is a solid, feature-rich helmet that offers enhanced safety for daily rides.
Co-op Cycles CTY e2.1 Electric Bike for $1,439 ($360 off)
Electric bikes are revolutionizing urban commuting and recreational cycling, making hills easier and longer distances more manageable. The Co-op Cycles CTY e2.1 (7/10, WIRED Review) is our favorite commuter ebike, offering a fantastic balance of features and value. It's a class 1 ebike, meaning it provides pedal assistance up to 20 mph. It's equipped with a 250-watt Suntour HESC motor and a 418-Wh battery, providing reliable power for daily commutes. The CTY e2.1 comes with a host of commuter-friendly extras, including front suspension to smooth out rough roads, hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power in all weather, large 2-inch-wide tires for comfort and stability, gel grips for reduced hand fatigue, integrated lights for visibility, and a sturdy kickstand. While it weighs 54 pounds and has slightly less torque than some other top ebikes, meaning it might struggle slightly on very steep hills, for the price, it offers a significant amount of ebike capability and will serve the needs of most commuters very well.
Water Filter and Stove Deals
Access to clean water and the ability to cook a warm meal are essential for any camping or backpacking trip. The REI sale includes deals on reliable water filters and camp stoves that have been tested and recommended by our experts. Understanding the different types of filters and stoves can help you choose the best option for your specific needs.

Katadyn BeFree 1.0L Water Filter for $45 ($15 off)
For the simplest and most convenient method of filtering water on the go, the Katadyn BeFree Water Filter is a standout. It's one of the lightest filters available, weighing just 2.3 ounces (65 grams) including the filter and bottle. This makes it an excellent option for activities where minimizing weight is crucial, such as trail running or day hikes. The design is part of its appeal: the filter is integrated into the lid of a collapsible soft container. Simply scoop water into the container, screw on the lid, and drink directly through the filter. The collapsible soft bottle rolls down to a tiny package, easily stashing into a small pack or trail running vest. It's our pick for the simplest, most convenient method of filtering water.
MSR Guardian Water Purifier for $292 ($98 off)
While the MSR Guardian Water Purifier is undeniably expensive, it is our top pick for trips involving sketchy water sources. It's a robust pump filter designed to remove not just bacteria and protozoa, but also viruses, filtering down to an impressive 0.02 micron. While heavier than minimalist filters and requiring manual pumping, the Guardian is built for reliability in challenging environments. A key feature is its self-cleaning design, which makes field maintenance incredibly easy – a significant advantage on longer trips. It's rated to purify up to 10,000 liters and conveniently screws directly onto a Nalgene bottle, allowing you to quickly pump out a couple of liters. If your adventures take you to remote areas with potentially contaminated water, the MSR Guardian offers a high level of confidence in your water safety.
MSR Autoflow XL 10L Gravity Water Filter for $97 ($30 off)
For group trips, the MSR Autoflow XL 10L Gravity Water Filter is a game-changer. Our reviewer states that this filter single-handedly changed backpacking for them, eliminating the tedious chore of pumping water for a family of five day after day. It's our favorite backpacking water filter for large groups because it requires minimal effort. Simply scoop up 10 liters of water into the dirty water bag, attach the hose and your water bottle or reservoir, and let gravity do the work. The filter is effective against common protozoa and bacteria, and the flow rate is a solid 1.5 liters per minute when the filter is clean. This filter allows you to purify a large volume of water while you attend to other camp tasks, making it invaluable for group backpacking.

MSR PocketRocket 2 Stove for $45 ($15 off)
Our backpacking stove guide is nearing completion, and the MSR PocketRocket 2 is poised to be our top pick for propane canister stoves. This stove is incredibly simple to use and boils water rapidly, taking about 3.5 minutes for 1 liter at sea level. Crucially for backcountry reliability, it's more durable than many other ultralight stoves our reviewer has tested, making it a trustworthy companion on the trail. Weighing in at a mere 2.6 ounces, it adds minimal weight to your pack. If you're looking for a compact, reliable, and fast-boiling stove for backpacking, the PocketRocket 2 is an excellent choice, and the sale price makes it even more appealing.
MSR Whisperlite Universal Stove for $150 ($50 off)
The MSR Whisperlite Universal Stove is a legendary piece of camping gear, and for good reason. Its primary advantage is its versatility: it can burn almost any fuel type, including isobutane-propane canisters, white gas, gasoline, and kerosene. This makes it an ideal choice for international travel or trips where you're unsure what type of fuel will be available. While flame control can be a little tricky, our reviewer has managed to get it to simmer, provided the wind isn't too strong. Be prepared for the noise, though – it sounds like a jet engine! Despite this, its multi-fuel capability and reliability make it a valuable stove for diverse adventures.
Sea to Summit Frontier 3L Ultralight Cook Pot for $52 ($23 off)
While the “ultralight” moniker might be debatable for an 8-inch frying pan in a backpacking context, the Sea to Summit Frontier 3L Cook Pot is our reviewer's all-time favorite backcountry cooking vessel for group trips. It's significantly lighter than traditional cookware of this size and capacity. While unfortunately affected by fake online reviews, the pot itself is genuinely good. For cooking for a group, this 3-liter pot is about as light as you can get while still having ample capacity. It's the go-to pot for our reviewer's family backpacking trips. The hard-anodized aluminum construction is sturdy and provides good heat transfer for cooking. The ceramic nonstick coating makes cleanup much easier, especially when paired with a good scraper. You can also nest the 2L version ($49) inside the 3L pot for more cooking flexibility on the trail. Theoretically, you could even nest the 1.3L version ($49) inside the 2L, though our reviewer hasn't tried this. The Frontier pot checks all the boxes for group backcountry cooking thanks to its thoughtful design, nonstick coating, and relatively low weight (13 ounces for the pan).
GSI Outdoors Compact Pot Scraper for $5 ($2 off)
While not a huge discount, the GSI Outdoors Compact Pot Scraper is possibly the best piece of backpacking gear our reviewer owns, and it's currently on sale. This seemingly simple tool is the unsung hero of backcountry cooking cleanup. It transforms the chore from a tedious scrubbing session into a quick, couple-of-seconds job. While it won't magically clean a seriously burnt pot (for that, you'll need to boil water in the pot to loosen the burnt bits), for almost every other situation, scraping down your pot with this tool gets it 99 percent clean. Our reviewer considers this tool indispensable for backcountry cooking, and at just a few dollars off, it's well worth adding to your gear kit.
Camping Deals
Camping offers a chance to relax and connect with nature, often with more creature comforts than backpacking. The REI sale includes deals on items that enhance the car camping experience, from comfortable seating to practical accessories.

Kelty Low Loveseat for $97 ($33 off)
For ultimate comfort around the campfire or campsite, the Kelty Low Loveseat is hard to beat. While it's certainly large, heavy, and a bit awkward to fold and carry compared to backpacking chairs, if you have the vehicle space for car camping, there's no cozier way to relax with a loved one. Its low profile is perfect for lounging around a fire pit, and the padded seat and back provide comfortable support. It's a luxury item for camping, but one that significantly enhances the relaxation factor.
Nemo Moonlite Elite Backpacking Chair for $135 ($45 off)
If you crave the comfort of a chair even when you're backpacking, the Nemo Moonlite Elite is the one to consider. At just 18 ounces, it's one of the lightest backpacking chairs on the market and packs down very small, making it feasible to carry on longer treks. It addresses a common issue with lightweight pole chairs by including a base pad that prevents the chair legs from sinking into soft ground. This simple addition makes a huge difference in stability and comfort on varied terrain. While still a luxury item for backpacking, the Moonlite Elite offers a comfortable seating option without adding excessive weight.
Nalgene 32 oz Wide-Mouth Water Bottle for $8.50 ($8.50 off)
Getting a classic Nalgene water bottle for half off is a deal that's hard to pass up. Our reviewer has always preferred the timeless reliability of Nalgene bottles to trendier options, using them consistently for hiking (aside from occasionally reusing Smartwater bottles for backpacking to save weight). Nalgenes are significantly lighter than stainless steel bottles and are arguably the most practical option for hiking due to their durability and wide mouth, which makes them easy to fill, clean, and use with water filters. Grab two of the big 48 ounce bottles and stash them in the side pockets of a pack like the Mystery Ranch Coulee 30, and you'll ensure your family stays hydrated on the trail.
Hydro Flask 24 oz. Water Bottle with Flex Straw Cap for $30 ($10 off)
For everyday use or car camping where weight isn't a primary concern, the Hydro Flask 24 oz. Water Bottle with Flex Straw Cap is a fantastic option. This version includes a convenient built-in straw, making it easy to sip throughout the day. Hydro Flask bottles are known for their exceptional durability and insulation properties, keeping drinks cold for hours. It's the straw-cap version of the most durable water bottle we've tested. While too heavy for backpacking, it's a great companion for car camping, picnics, or daily hydration, and it comes in a variety of appealing colors.

Coleman Cascade 3-in-1 Camp Stove for $206 ($69 off)
For those who take their camp cooking seriously, the Coleman Cascade 3-in-1 Camp Stove is our reviewer's favorite among Coleman's current lineup (8/10, WIRED Recommends). It features heavy-duty cast iron grates for durability and even heat distribution. The included cast-iron griddle and grill add versatility, allowing you to cook a wider variety of meals outdoors. Its spacious design can accommodate a 12-inch pan and a 10-inch pan side by side, making it suitable for cooking for a family or group. Overall, it feels sturdier and more robust than other Coleman stoves, justifying the higher price point for dedicated camp cooks. However, if you only plan to use a camp stove a few nights a year, the much cheaper classic version (mentioned below) will likely suffice for basic cooking needs.
Coleman Cascade Classic Camp Stove for $98 ($32 off)
The Coleman Cascade Classic Camp Stove is our favorite camp stove for most people due to its reliability, simplicity, and value. This particular version is slightly more feature-rich than our absolute top pick, boasting electronic ignition for easy lighting and a pleasant pale green paint job. Whether these upgrades are worth the extra $30 is a personal decision. If not, you can still snag the less fancy version for $59 at Walmart. Regardless of the specific model, the Coleman Classic design is a proven workhorse for car camping, providing two burners capable of handling most camp cooking tasks.
Ignik Gas Growler Deluxe for $97 ($33 off)
For car campers looking for a more sustainable and convenient alternative to disposable green propane bottles, the Ignik Gas Growler Deluxe is our favorite solution. This deal includes a 1.2-pound refillable propane tank housed in a nice padded and insulated sleeve, complete with a handy strap for carrying. Not only does it make your camp setup look much tidier than a bare tank, but the padded sleeve also protects your shins from those inevitable bumps against cold, hard steel when moving the tank around. This size is equivalent to five of the small green propane bottles, offering a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective option over time. It's a practical upgrade for frequent car campers.

Garmin inReach Mini 2 for $300 ($100 off)
While our reviewer hasn't personally used a satellite communicator on a trip yet, they understand the peace of mind they provide for venturing into areas without cell service. If they were to bring one, the Garmin inReach Mini 2 is the model they'd choose. It's incredibly tiny and lightweight at just 3.5 ounces, making it easy to stash in any pack. It utilizes the reliable Iridium satellite network, allowing you to send an SOS message from virtually anywhere in the world, a critical safety feature for remote adventures. Beyond emergency communication, it offers features like sending and receiving text messages, waypoint navigation, and interval tracking. It also integrates seamlessly with compatible Garmin watches. While it requires a subscription plan, the device itself being on sale makes this essential safety tool more accessible.
Ruffwear Confluence Life Jacket for $86 ($29 off)
Summer often means spending time near or on the water, and if you bring your furry friend along, their safety is just as important as yours. This Ruffwear Confluence Life Jacket was a personal purchase for our reviewer Adrienne So this year, specifically for her 1-year-old puppy. While her spouse is confident in their dog's swimming abilities, Adrienne prefers the added security a life jacket provides, especially during boating trips. Beyond providing buoyancy, the Ruffwear jacket includes sturdy handles, making it easy to grab and assist your dog if needed. It's a practical piece of gear for any water-loving dog and their safety-conscious owner.
Petzl Tikka Headlamp for $26 ($10 off)
A reliable headlamp is a fundamental piece of gear for camping, backpacking, or even just navigating around camp after dark. The Petzl Tikka is our favorite headlamp, praised for its longevity and reliability. Our reviewer has owned the same one since 2012, and it's still going strong, outlasting every other headlamp or flashlight they've tried in that time. While not the brightest light on the market (the models linked here top out at 350 lumens), it provides plenty of illumination for tasks like cooking in the backcountry or performing repairs in low light. The Tikka runs on three AAA batteries (we recommend using Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable batteries) and offers over 5.5 hours of runtime. Its proven durability and consistent performance make it an excellent value, especially with the sale discount.

Silky F180 Folding Hand Saw for $34 ($9 off)
For those who enjoy cooking over an open flame using a portable stove like our reviewer's favorite Firebox stove, cutting small pieces of wood is often necessary. The Silky F180 Folding Hand Saw is the best portable saw our reviewer has found for this purpose. It's lightweight enough for bikepacking (5.3 ounces) and folds down to a compact 9 inches, easily fitting into a pannier or pack. This saw is incredibly sharp, making quick work of small branches. However, its sharpness also means you need to be careful when using it in the backcountry. It's a highly effective tool for processing small wood for campfires or portable stoves.
Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Bags 25 Percent Off
Keeping your gear organized and protected from moisture is key to an enjoyable outdoor experience. Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Bags are excellent for organizing items within your pack. While they aren't designed for full submersion, the 30D silnylon fabric with a PCF-free DWR coating provides good water resistance, shedding light rain and protecting contents from dampness inside your pack. Our reviewer finds them invaluable for keeping different categories of gear separate and easy to find, suggesting a color-coding system (e.g., red for cooking gear, blue for water filtration). The 3 and 5-liter sizes are particularly useful, but they are available in sizes up to 35L. Getting them at 25 percent off makes them a great value for improving pack organization and weather resistance.
NRS Heavy-Duty Straps for 20 Percent off
NRS Heavy-Duty Straps are a fundamental piece of gear for anyone who needs to secure items, whether it's for river trips, car camping, or transporting gear. Our reviewer considers them a must-have, relying on them for everything from cinching gear onto a boat (like river guides do) to securing paddleboards on top of their Jeep. The durability of NRS straps is legendary; our reviewer still uses straps that are over 30 years old and performing perfectly. The 1-inch straps are the most versatile for general use. You can pick up a two-pack of 6-footers for $13 or a two-pack of 12-footers for $14 during the sale. These straps are incredibly useful and built to last.

Oru Lake Kayak for $399 (100 off)
Oru's foldable kayaks are a brilliant solution for paddlers with limited storage or transport space. The Oru Lake Kayak is their entry-level model, offering a lightweight, reasonably fast paddling experience and the most affordable way to get into the world of folding kayaks. Like all Oru kayaks, the Lake folds up origami-style into a compact, flat package measuring roughly 30 inches square and just 15 inches deep. This small size means it can easily fit in a car trunk, a closet, or even be carried on public transport, eliminating the need for roof racks or dedicated storage space. It's a revolutionary design that makes kayaking more accessible, and the $100 discount makes it even more tempting.
